How to Organize Fabric Without a Huge Craft Room

You do not need a giant craft room to keep fabric organized. A small, realistic system is usually better than a complicated one that is hard to maintain.

Sort fabric in a way that matches how you create

Some people like sorting by color. Others prefer sorting by project, fabric type, season, or size. Choose the system that helps you find what you need quickly.

Use clear bins or labeled baskets

Clear bins make it easy to see what you have. If you prefer baskets, add labels so you do not have to dig through everything.

Keep current projects separate

Use one basket, tote, or project bag for the fabric and supplies you are actively using.

Give scraps their own home

Scraps can take over quickly. Keep them in a separate bin or sort them by size so they are easier to use later.

Use vertical space

Shelves, carts, pegboards, and over-the-door organizers can help when floor space is limited.

I keep favorite craft-room storage and organization finds on the Shop Favorites page.
